MSD's high-grade steel distributor gears are burnished for a smooth, scuff-free finish, and are machined for precise gear mesh. Excessive clearance causes timing fluctuation throughout the rpm range, resulting in lost horsepower, so MSD also designed these gears for tighter mesh between the camshaft and distributor drive gears.

Steel Gear

A new hole will almost always be required to be drilled in your distributor's shaft. The hole provided in all replacement gears is there are a pilot. The distributor clearances must be set and the gear placed appropriately. If the gear's hole gives the correct dimension in the shaft's existing hole, you should go buy a lottery ticket.
