MSD Pro-Billet distributors share the same CNC machining techniques as the rest of the MSD distributor line. They feature a housing that is machined from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum for durability and show-quality looks. Their oversized shaft receives a QPQ coating for friction reduction and corrosion resistance, with the added strength of two sealed ball bearings that guide the shaft accurately at well over 10,000 rpm. An extra-long sintered bushing replaces the ball bearing at the bottom of Chevrolet models. TIG-welded on top of the polished steel shaft is MSD's accurate mechanical advance assembly. The weights are supported by nylon pads that allow the advance to operate smoothly throughout the rpm range. For all-out racing, the advance mechanism can also be easily locked out. To accurately trigger the ignition, a high-output magnetic pickup is bolted to the base. This pickup produces a precise trigger signal that will never vary more than one degree at any rpm. A durable gear is installed for performance applications, and an MSD red cap with brass terminals and race rotor is supplied. They're available in standard and small diameter models for applications with limited clearance, and require the use of a separate ignition box such as an MSD 6, 7, 8, or 10 Series ignition.

Looking forward to getting this installed. Finish and detail are very high quality. The smaller size is handy. I expect this Distributor to give me long dependable service. I am disappointed however that in order to use to Distributor with my Roller Cam, I have to purchase an expensive replacement drive gear. Then pay to get it installed. The value kind of disappears all of a sudden. Another little twist. Why doesn't MSD offer this Distributor with the Melonized Gear installed. Lots of Guys are building Roller motors. ...read more

MSD 8578 distributor

This is my first MSD distributor, replacing a pro comp that came with the engine and failed. It was easy to install, but the two wire leads were not long enough so cutting and soldering longer wire required. I tried the factory setting for a baseline and the motor fired right up (427 windsor stroker 600 HP). This motor dos'nt like a lot of advance, about 27-28 degrees total 10 initial.. Factory setting was ok, no detonation but performance not quite there. It is easy to change the timing curve on this distributor and after a few spring and bushing changes I have the optimal advance curve. The motor makes power, no pinging and runs and idles smooth. Some other reviewers stated they needed a brass gear, I emailed the tech people was told with my hydraulic roller cam set up the stock gear was acceptable. ...read more
