MSD Blaster HVC ignition coils are designed for high-rpm, long-duration applications, such as road course and Circle Track racing using the MSD 6 Series ignition. These units feature a 100:1 turns ratio, as well as lower primary resistance to produce high-voltage output. Windings are encased in a durable epoxy and secured with extruded brackets. They also feature a spark plug style terminal and a threaded brass primary stud. These ignition coils are CARB EO-approved and are supplied with rubber shock mounts to help them resist coil vibration. MSD is not what it used to be

I ordered this coil to replace a Mallory coil that lasted 13 years and worked perfect. Since MSD now owns that company, the Mallory unit is no longer available. First problem was the instructions. My guess is they have been translated from a different language. The list of items included doesn't even match what's in the box. The mounting feet require a machine nut, so if you want to mount this coil to your firewall, and most of us probably do, you have to remove the heater box or cowl panel to get access to the nuts. If you follow the instructions you have to mount the coil, then remove the coil to install a provided ground wire between the coil frame and a mounting foot. This would prevent the coil from sitting down tightly on all four mounts. Also the sticker on the front, which looks terrible, was crooked. I called MSD about the issues and asked for a new sticker so I could put it on straight and the response I got was to just return the coil. So that's exactly what I did. I exchanged it for a Pertronix unit that was HALF the price with a higher output. The only good thing about the MSD coil was I bought it from Summit, so exchanging it was very quick and easy. ...read more

Outstanding Drag Race Coil

I purchased this coil to work in conjunction with the Digital 6 plus MSD box . The installation was easy and the supplied hardware was nice to have as well. I mounted this coil on a piece of aluminum and then mounted the assembly to my firewall. It looks great and when mounted is very stable. The supplied shock mounts not only prevent vibration but also look trick. This unit can be mounted on firewall or in the cab of your car. It's pretty much what everyone at the track uses. I race in the 1/8 mile drags and from start to finish I'm full bore wide open throttle. No hiccups from this unit so I'm real happy. ...read more
